Brake Cooling Ducts for Lotus Elise and Exige

Brake ducts aren't new to high performance cars. This particular concept for the Lotus originated on the west coast by another Lotus enthusiast, Brent.

The Lotus platform comes with excellent brakes from the factory. However, when pushed hard at the track, many track enthusiasts have discovered that the brakes suffer from poor cooling causing even the best brake fluids to boil in the caliper. This fluid boiling introduces air to the brake system. Consequently, when the brake pedal is applied, it will go straight to the floor. These cooling ducts will allow you to push your lotus harder than ever, brake later, and run more aggressive brake pads.

Included in the kit is a backing plate for the hub that seals off the back side of the rotor. The backing plate helps to force the air that is captured with additional ports on the front of the car through the cooling vanes within the rotor. NOTE, the hub must be machined to accept this backing plate, and that machining IS INCLUDED in the price (see below). Also included are high temp brake cooling ducts, inlet ports for the front of the car and other needed hardare.

What about Big Brake Kits (BBK)? BBKs obviously serve a good function. However, there are some drawbacks to them. They add considerable unsprung weight to the car (the worst kind), and they're very expensive. Many people add BBKs to their cars without first fully exploring the potential of their stock size braking system. It's very possible that proper cooling of the stock size brakes, along with high quality track pads is everything you need to get your Lotus into the winner's circle.

NOTE:  As mentioned above,  included with the purchase is the service of machining both front hubs to accept the backing plates. The turn around for hub machining is 48-72 hours or less.
